Inspired by Blaxploitation films from the 70's, Hardwood EXP
presents "Undercover". This pseudo-soundtrack is
a music motif that represents the lives & lifestyles of dangerous
characters often referred to as “anti-heroes”. Yeah, you know
the ones – smooth with the foxy ladies while protecting their
territory renegade style. Involved in underworld operations
and schemes, this private dick is looking for justice and
a good woman to love.
Bad ass grooves constructed with funky loops and jazzy
beats develop to tell the full story of this sex machine man
on the look out. Supporting characters are as follows: pimps,
pushers, gangstas and of course, the man who has everythingís
essential accessory – a group of ladies of the night to drape
around his shoulders as needed for the scene.
The
Struttin' EP, available in October 2000, is a preview of the
full-length album scheduled for release in late February 2001.
Hardwood's
recent production credits include the track, 'That Sounds
Personal' a collaborative effort with Mr. Dead released on
"Subterranean Hitz Vol. III, The Ill School” (WordSound).
The song was acclaimed by URB magazine (July 2000) as the
defining track featured on this last installation in the seminal
underground hip-hop compilation series released by WordSound
Recordings.
Hardwood
EXP, a.k.a. DJ Wood, teamed up with Mr. Dead again to create
& produce several tracks on Dead’s "Dawn of the Dead"
album just released in January 2001. This is Dead's solo debut
after releasing The M-Virus in 1999 with MC Big Pat,
as the Metabolics. Both albums were released on WordSound.
Elemental
Magazine (Issue 27) recently reviewed Dawn of the Dead
stating, “The best song on the album is ‘Lungevity’. With
a dope beat by DJ Wood, Mr. Dead comes off nice.” The summary
of the review also named another phat track on the album,
“Self Discipline”, also by DJ Wood, as one of the illest.
